HPC Detector for X-RAY

AdvaPIX TPX3

Fast Spectral Imaging Camera

  • Model:

AdvaPIX TPX3

AdvaPIX TPX3 is the world’s first radiation imaging detector that operates in a list mode. This means every single hit of radiation is recorded into a continuous stream of data. The device measures position, energy and time-of-arrival of each detected quanta. The detector has an array of 256x256 spectrometers (pixels) with Si or CdTe sensors. Each pixel records a spectrum of incoming events. The measured time stamp in addition gives the possibility to check for coincident events or charge sharing between pixels. This entirely new approach opens new horizons for the ionising radiation detection. The camera module contains CERN's latest Timepix3 device with ultra-fast sparse data readout to acquire up to 40 million pixel hits per second. The module uses USB 3.0 communication channel, which assures a fast read-out of the system.

The AdvaPIX TPX3 can be used in a variety of applications, such as energy resolved radiography (X-rays, neutrons, ions), particle tracking, time-of-flight imaging, Compton camera and many others. The sensors can be adapted for neutron imaging, by deposition of the converter layer (6LiF). Recording individual hits together with advanced data processing allows imaging at super spatial resolution. It can reach in some applications units of microns (X-rays) or even sub-micrometric level (ions).

Compared to the older Timepix chip, the Timepix3 detector offers imaging with 6x better time resolution, 2x better energy resolution, 2x lower minimum energy threshold, zero dead time, and 10x faster data transfer.
