Radiation Dose Monitoring for Future NASA Programs

NASA uses 7 MiniPIX radiation detectors on board of the ISS for tracking radiation in space.
Below is a segment of the presentation of Eddie Semones from NASA, given during the Medipix Symposium at CERN.

Our MediPIX Timepix pixel detectors take direct images of radiation track structures (like digital nuclear emulsion). Each track can be processed to reveal particle information.

Pixel detector advantages for space are size, weight, power consumption and particle ID capabilities.

In 2021, the detectors will be used on an expedition to the moon, as science instrument as part of NASA Commercial Lunar Payload services program.
