Introduction

Advanced high-speed spectral imaging camera optimized for high-energy operating conditions

AdvaPIX MAGIC Dual Integrates multiple advantages: the readout circuit is laid out on the side of the sensor's sensitive area, minimizing the material behind the sensor, thereby providing an unobstructed path for the primary X-ray beam. The detector uses a single USB3.0 interface to enable synchronized operation of four Timepix3 chips.

This detector has a dual-chip structure with a rectangular sensitive area measuring 28×14 mm and a pixel resolution of 131,072 pixels. Compared to the standard single-chip AdvaPIX version, this version offers a larger sensitive area, allowing more data to be collected in a single measurement.

The AdvaPIX MAGIC Dual is the world's first photon-counting detector supporting list-mode data-driven operation. In this mode, each radiation hit event is recorded in real time into a continuous data stream. The device precisely measures the position, energy, and arrival time of each detected quantum.

Typical Applications

  • Energy-resolved imaging (X-ray, neutron, ion)

  • Particle tracking

  • Time-of-flight imaging

  • Compton camera

  • X-ray spectral imaging

  • Crystallographic analysis (small-angle scattering/X-ray diffraction)

By depositing a conversion layer (6LiF), the sensor can be adapted for neutron imaging needs. Combined with advanced data processing techniques that record individual hit events, ultra-high spatial resolution imaging can be achieved, with resolution reaching the micron level (X-ray) or even sub-micron level (ions).

Company Introduction

Advacam S.R.O. originated from the Institute of Experimental and Applied Physics of the Czech Technical University, and is dedicated to providing silicon sensor fabrication, microelectronics packaging, radiation imaging cameras, and X-ray imaging solutions across multidisciplinary business areas.

The core technical feature of Advacam is that its X-ray detectors (based on the Timepix chip) have no gaps, delivering outstanding performance in non-destructive testing, biomedicine, geology and mining, art, and neutron imaging. Advacam maintains strong project collaborations with NASA and ESA, and its products and solutions are also applied in the aerospace sector.
