Introduction

Advanced high-speed energy-resolved imaging camera optimized for high-energy detection

The AdvaPIX MAGIC Quad combines several unique advantages: electronics are laid out laterally to the sensitive area, material behind the sensor is minimized, and through-holes for the direct X-ray beam provide a customizable option for a completely unobstructed transmission path. The device synchronizes four Timepix3 chips through a single USB3.0 interface.

As the world's first photon-counting detector driven by a list-data mode, the AdvaPIX MAGIC Quad records each radiation hit event in real time as a continuous data stream, precisely measuring the position, energy, and arrival time of every detected quantum. The detector features ultra-high-speed sparse data readout, capturing up to 47 million pixel hit events per second.

Available Variants

1. AdvaPIX MAGIC Quad The detector employs a four-chip square array structure.

The open-aperture version features an opening at the center of the detector, an improved design suitable for experimental methods requiring high-intensity focused beams, such as X ray diffraction. This central void prevents damage to the detector's sensitive area.

The array size is 28 × 28 mm, with a resolution of 262,144 pixels. Compared with other versions, this detector features a larger sensitive detection area, enabling the acquisition of more data in a single measurement.

This structure performs X-ray diffraction (XRD) and other material analysis methods with optimal performance.

2. This pioneering design is optimized for XRD, WAXS, and SAXS applications.

The detection area is extended via a monolithic sensor, available in versions with or without a central aperture, to accommodate the incident direct beam.

The flexible sensitive detection area supports multiple mounting positions and angles, enabling configurations such as in-line or L-shaped layouts to precisely meet the specific requirements of various applications.

Typical Applications

  • Energy-resolved imaging (X-ray, neutron, ion)

  • Particle tracking

  • Time-of-flight imaging

  • Compton camera

  • X-ray spectral imaging

  • Crystallographic analysis (small-angle scattering/X-ray diffraction)

By depositing a conversion layer (6LiF), the sensor can be adapted for neutron imaging needs. Combined with advanced data processing techniques to record single-hit events, ultra-high spatial resolution imaging can be achieved, with resolution reaching micrometer level (X-ray) or even sub-micrometer level (ions).

Company Introduction

Advacam S.R.O. originated from the Institute of Experimental and Applied Physics of Czech Technical University, and is dedicated to providing silicon sensor fabrication, microelectronic packaging, radiation imaging cameras, and X-ray imaging solutions across multidisciplinary business areas. The core technical feature of Advacam is that its X-ray detectors (based on Timepix chips) have no gaps, making them exceptionally outstanding in non-destructive testing, biomedicine, geology and mining, art, and neutron imaging. Advacam maintains strong project collaborations with NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and ESA (European Space Agency), and its products and solutions are also applied in the aerospace field.
