MiniPIX EDU Timepix Photon-Counting X-ray Detector
An affordable device designed for physics classrooms, enabling students to intuitively "see" the radiation around us. It is a miniaturized, low-power radiation camera solution based on the Timepix single-particle counting or particle tracking detector. The standard MiniPIX EDU system integrates a Timepix detector (256 x 256 pixel array, 55 μm pixel pitch) and is equipped with a 300 or 500 μm thick silicon sensor.
Model: MiniPIX EDU
Brand: Advacam

Introduction
MiniPIX EDU is a miniaturized USB particle camera designed and priced for educational use. It can record the ubiquitous trace radioactivity around us. Students can visualize the radioactivity of any standard material or object. They can investigate the variation of airborne radioactivity over the course of a day, search for cosmic muons and examine their directions, and observe how altitude affects the presence of different types of radiation. They can even prepare their own (safe) radioactive sources and construct shielding to block the radiation they emit. They can also verify the law of radioactive decay. Students can directly observe how different types of radiation interact with matter and what subsequently happens.
Operation is very simple: just plug the MiniPIX EDU device into a USB port on a computer and launch the software. Using the proprietary PIXet Basic radiation visualization software, captivating images of ionizing particles will begin to appear before you. Students can understand how humanity benefits from ionizing radiation and radioactivity.
MiniPIX EDU is a miniaturized, low-power radiation camera solution employing a Timepix single-particle-counting (or particle-tracking) detector. The camera incorporates a single Timepix detector (256 x 256 pixels, 55 μm pixel pitch) with a silicon sensor thickness of 300 or 500 μm.
MiniPIX EDU is fully suitable for educational purposes. However, compared to the standard MiniPIX, it has some subtle limitations:
- Sensor stability and pixel response patterns are not evaluated.
- Chip quality is evaluated only in the central region (50% of the total sensor area, i.e., 180*180 pixels).
- One column of defective pixels is allowed in the central region.
- Clusters of defective pixels of up to 20 pixels are allowed (excluding columns).
- Overall, 1% defective pixels are allowed in the central region - 324 pixels (including any defective columns that may be present).
- The quality criteria are the same for 500 μm and 300 μm thick silicon sensors.
- MiniPIX EDU is supplied with Pixet Basic software, which has limited functionality compared to Pixet Pro.
- There is an Advacam logo watermark in imaging mode.
MiniPIX EDU is a standalone product with its own unique design. It differs from other cameras in the MiniPIX series not because it is designated for educational use, but because it is a different type of device with different functionalities.
